Rio Tierra Song Contest

Have you ever wanted to write and create your own song or rap? Now you can. Write your song lyrics about something positive about Rio Tierra or song lyrics about something else of your choosing. Lyrics will be scored using the rubric below:

Structure (Verses & Chorus)

Song has 2–3+ clear verses and a memorable chorus that repeats. Strong flow like a real song.

Song has verses and a chorus, but one part may be short or uneven.

Song shows some attempt at verses/chorus, but they are incomplete or confusing.

Song does not clearly have verses and a chorus.

Positive Message

Lyrics share a very positive, uplifting theme that inspires others.

Lyrics include a positive message but it could be stronger/clearer.

Lyrics have a partly positive idea, but message is weak or mixed.

Lyrics do not show a positive message.

Creativity & Word Choice

Very creative, descriptive language; lyrics are original and easy to imagine being sung.

Some creative ideas and word choice, though a few lines are plain/repetitive

Limited creativity; word choice is simple and not very original.

Very little creativity; lyrics feel copied or unfinished.

Audience Appeal (School Spirit/Fit for Rallies)

Lyrics would work great for school rallies, games, or assemblies; catchy and fun.

Lyrics could be used at school events but may need small adjustments.

Lyrics are okay but not very exciting for a school setting.

Lyrics do not fit school events or are not appealing.

Effort & Completeness

Song is fully developed, polished, and clearly shows effort.

Song is mostly complete; shows good effort.

Song is partly complete or rushed; some effort shown.

Song is incomplete or shows little effort.

Winners will recieve a gift card and will be able to turn their lyrics into a real song they can download and keep!
