Before we even talk about college, we want to share some of the options you have in high school that can prepare you for a career or for college! All of the high schools in Twin Rivers School District have CTE programs. CTE stands for Career Technical Education. These programs focus on a special area of study such as the arts or STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math). CTE programs provides career, college, and workforce preparation for high school students. Our six high schools offer CTE that vary in focus areas. Agricultural Mechanics
Students learn the skills necessary to operate and maintain equipment and agriculture along with environmental and farm Management.
*Only offered at Rio Linda High School
Agriscience (Farm to Fork)
Students learn the relationships between food science and agriculture along with environmental and farm management.
*The Agriscience Academy is only offered at Rio Lina High School
Animation
Students learn how to give life to characters and stories that they create and prepare them to pursue a professional career in animation, design, and film-making.
*Only Offered at Foothill High School
Architectural Design
Students learn computer design, materials, the process of construction in all phases along with the design process used for products and homes while also earning college credit at ARC.
*Only offered at Highlands High School
Business Finance
Students learn the fields of banking, accounting, financial management, securities and investments, and other financial specializations to prepare for a career in business.
*Only offered at Grant High School
Business Management
Students learn entrepreneurship and the skills necessary to start and run a business, managing all aspects of a business from personnel to finances.
*Only offered at Vista Nueva High School
Construction
Students learn the variety of construction skills directly associated with completing building projects to prepare for apprenticeship programs that offer very competitive salaries and career growth.
Computer Science
Students learn opportunities to maintain computers and networks that operate in industries such as healthcare, education, finance, entertainment, and more! It is more than just access to technology-it is about innovation and creativity.
*The Computer Science Pathway is offered only at Grant High School if students are interested in this pathway, they can take Computer Science Discoveries and Computer Science Fundamentals as part of Rio Tierra's CTE pathway.
Criminal Justice Academy
Students learn about criminal law and crime scene investigations, while they improve on things such as teamwork, pricde, and commitment-all desirable traits for a future in public safety.
*The Criminal Justice Academy is only offered at Grant High School
Culinary
Students learn skills such as food service operations, nutrition, food preparation, and presentation while getting hands-on training to prepare for work in the hospitality industry.
Digital Media
Students learn how to take a production from start to finish, including filming and editing, broadcasting, animation, graphics, and more.
Early Childhood Education
Students learn to work with young children in preschool, daycare, and primary grades including development of an understanding of the responsibilities and systems involved in education careers.
*The Early Childhood Education Pathway is offered at Foothill and Pacific High Schools
Floral Design
Students learn the fundamentals of the floral industry including plan identification, soil science, and floriculture.
The Floral Design Pathway is only offered at Rio Linda High School
Game Design
Students learn to apply the art of design and aesthetics to create games for entertainment, education, or experimental purposes.
*Only offered at Highlands High School
Geo Academy
Students learn both skills and knowledge to actively impact their community and protect the environment through current sustainable practices in the natural resources industry.
*The Geo Academy is only offered at Grant High School
Green Engine
Students learn the basics of diesel engine technology maintenance and repair while also earning college credit at American River Community College.
*The Green Engine Pathway is only offered at Highlands High School
Marketing, Sales, and Services
Students learn financial skills, sales, and business concepts while providing customer services through three student-run businesses.
*The Marketing, Sales, and Services Pathway is only offered at Rio Linda High School
Multimedia Production
Students learn how to take a production from start to finish, including filming and editing, photography, graphics, and more.
*The Multimedia Production Pathway is only offered at Grant High School
Sports Health
Students learn the basic skills and fundamentals of health science and acquire skills needed to become entry-level practitioners in the sports medicine and health and fitness industries.

Theatre Production
Students learn the skills necessary to be successful in the Arts, Media, and Entertainment industry in this expansive program for students interested in acting, creative writing, set design, costume design, and managing a live production.
*The Theatre Production Pathway is only offered at Grant High School
TV and Video Production
Students learn to think and work like media producers by engaging in hands-on production projects using industry-standard tools for television and media productions.

How do you get to a career?
1). Many Careers require a Bachelor's degree which requires a student to attend a college or university and earn a Bachelor's Degree (a
degree that takes 4 years)
2). Some careers only require an Associate's degree which requires a student to attend a community college and earn an Associate's Degree
(a degree that takes 2 years)
3). Some careers do not require any college but require training that can be acquired through
- Attending a Trade School or Community College and earn a certificate in a special area (Could take 3 months to 24 months, programs vary)
- Join a labor union program
- Apply for an internship program
year commitment to gain skills, experience, and use the military benefits after they are out to go to college, often times for free

Yes, you can! Twin Rivers School District has partnered with American River College in order to offer a FREE Dual Enrollment program where students can take college courses at any of our high schools. Students remain on campus, earn double high school credit, while simultaneously earning college credits. If student take and pass all of the courses in the program they will earn an Associates Degree in Social Science. According to Indeed.com "A trade job can be a great option if you enjoy challenging, hands-on work. Jobs in this field require vocational schooling or training and often pay well for the specialized skill set they require. Learning about the wide variety of high-paying trade careers available can help you choose a career that best suits your interests". Learning a trade is different than going to college but it can be just as hard. Carpenter/Construction
"General carpenters provide the crucial foundation for concrete, exteriors, roofs, infrastructure, and scaffolding while also crafting fine trim and finish work. These professionals work with a variety of materials in every kind of structure; they are responsible for bringing blueprints to life. UBC carpenters are skilled in laying out, measuring, cutting, erecting, and joining materials together. They are highly trained to work quickly, accurately, and safely, while delivering the quality of work contractors and their customers have come to expect".

Electrician
"The IBEW represents workers in the electrical industry including construction, gas and electric utilities, telecommunications, railroads and government agencies. Construction and residential electricians work in all phases of the electrical construction and service industry. Their worksites range from single-family residences to state-of-the-art industrial plants. "Firefighters today not only suppress structure and wildland fires, but they perform a wide variety of rescue operations. These can range from vehicle extrication and water rescue to managing disasters like earthquakes, floods and acts of terrorism. Firefighters also respond to all types of medical emergencies on a daily basis. Many firefighters have Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification and others have gone on to achieve paramedic certification. Besides rescue operations, firefighters can be found in related areas such as fire prevention education and hazardous materials response".
