Rio Tierra is the only Jr. High that is able to offer as many electives as we do. Next year we will be offering 6 different electives. Watch the video to see what electives are being offered next year. If you have Mr. Bressani or Ms. Sparks as an elective teacher, you will continue to have them as an elective next year. Students who are enrolled in English Language Development will continue to progress through the four courses, ELD 1, ELD 2, ELD 3, & Academic ELD. If a student scores a 4 on the ELPAC test typically taken in April, students may be reclassified indicating that they no longer need to take ELD courses. For more details you can contact the school counselor, Mrs. Juarros. You can also find more information by visiting our Engish Language Learner (ELL) Resources webpage.

Before you make your final decision consider the following:
- If you took Computer Science Fundamentals or Introduction to Digital Media you should consider taking the second level course (Computer Science Discoveries or Digital Media Literature for 8th graders only), especially if you would like to continue on in a CTE pathway. Even if you do not think you want to take computers or digital media in HS, having two CTE courses on your resume and having the skills could help you get a great job in HS and after graduation. Don't worry, it is not the same thing so you won't be bored!
- If you are in Curriculum Support with Mr. Bressani or Ms. Sparks you will have that class as your elective next year.
- If you took ELD 1, 2, or 3 you will continue to take the next ELD course unless you pass the ELPAC and are reclassified.
- I give 8th graders 1st preference before 7th graders. However, we are a smaller school and electives are not offered every period. Most are offered 1st & 2nd or 5th & 6th. This means I may have to give you your 2nd choice. Be sure to select a different elective for each choice just in case I can't get you in your first choice.
