High school Programs that prep you for college & a career

Before we even talk about college, let me tell you some of the options you have in high school that can prepare you for a career or for college!  Twin Rivers School District has several high schools that have CTE programs.  CTE stands for Career Technical Education.  These programs focus on a special area of study such as the arts or STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math).  CTE programs provides career, college, and workforce preparation for high school students.  Six high schools currently offer CTE and all have a different focus.  You can find out more about what each school offers by clicking here. You can also visit the Career Exploration tab under counseling to view videos on pathways offered by feeder high schools Grant and Rio Linda.

different options to get to a career

How do you get to a career?
1).  Many Careers require a Bachelor's degree which requires a student to attend a college or university and earn a Bachelor's Degree (a
      degree that takes 4 years)
2).  Some careers only require an Associate's degree which requires a student to attend a community college and earn an Associate's Degree
(a degree that takes 2 years)
3).  Some careers do not require any college but require training that can be acquired through
  • Attending a Trade School or Community College and earn a certificate in a special area (Could take 3 months to 24 months, programs vary)
  • Join a labor union program
  • Apply for an internship program
4).  Joining the military will give you specific training and experience.  Students who join the military often make a career out of it or use the four
year commitment to gain skills, experience, and use the military benefits after they are out to go to college, often times for free
