Before we even talk about college, let me tell you some of the options you have in high school that can prepare you for a career or for college!  Twin Rivers School District has several high schools that have CTE programs.  CTE stands for Career Technical Education.  These programs focus on a special area of study such as the arts or STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math).  CTE programs provides career, college, and workforce preparation for high school students.  Six high schools currently offer CTE and all have a different focus.  You can find out more about what each school offers by clicking here. How do you get to a career? 

1).  Many Careers require a Bachelor's degree which requires a student to attend a college or university and earn a Bachelor's Degree (a 

      degree that takes 4 years)

2).  Some careers only require an Associate's degree which requires a student to attend a community college and earn an Associate's Degree

      (a degree that takes 2 years)

3).  Some careers do not require any college but require training that can be acquired through

• Attending a Trade School or Community College and earn a certificate in a special area (Could take 3 months to 24 months, programs vary)
• Join a labor union program
• Apply for an internship program

4).  Joining the military will give you specific training and experience.  Students who join the military often make a career out of it or use the four

       year commitment to gain skills, experience, and use the military benefits after they are out to go to college, often times for free

2 year colleges to earn an Associate's Degree or a Certificate in a Trade

• Free in California!
• Live at home or on your own (usually no dorms BUT California has a few that do have dorms)
• Very low cost
• Easy addmissions 

4 yr college to earn a Bachelor's degree-some offer Master's and beyond

• Public College
• Costs more than Community College but is more affordable than a University or Private College
• Has Dorms/Meal Plan
• Only 23 in California (Each state has their own-you can attend out of state colleges but they cost more if you do not live in that state)
• Competative Addmissions with GPA requirement

4 years college to earn a Bachelor's degree-some offer Master's and beyond

• Focused more on research fields
• Most expensive public college/university
• Has dorm/Meal plan
• Only 10 in California (Each state has their own-you can attend out of state universities but they cost more if you do not live in that state)
• Very competitive admission, requires higher GPA
• Requires 4 years of HS math and a lab science in HS
